Directed Against Civilians: US Mission to the United Nations Manipulates Transcript

Last week, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield told the UN General Assembly:

“We’ve seen videos of Russian forces moving exceptionally lethal weaponry into Ukraine, which has no place on the battlefield. That includes cluster munitions and vacuum bombs which are banned under the Geneva Convention.”

Perhaps just as notable is the response that followed, with the US Mission to the UN manipulating the transcript to add, "if they are directed against civilians."

Note that the US opposed the creation of the Convention on Cluster Munitions and has yet to ratify the treaty. Russia and Ukraine haven't either. Reports also suggest the country has used such weapons many times, including an attack under President Obama over a decade ago that killed over 50 people in Yemen.

Many of the deaths were women and children.
